Day 2 - daytona beach to st augustine

Today started at 5am when I awoke due to the time difference. K managed to sleep till 7 though so we set off at 8. I popped next door to 7-11 before we left and picked up some coffee. During the drive to breakfast we passed a lot of cool motels and a drive  thru Christian church!!!

For breakfast we went to the cracked egg diner and slid into a wee booth for 2. I ordered corn beef hash (American corned beef is what we call salt beef very different from British corned beef) and k got a fried egg, grits and bacon. While we were waiting for our food a super casual local popo came in for breakfast with his buddies. He had short shorts, a tasche and some sweet guns.  Our food came and was massive and delicious!

Then we got back in the car and started cruising up the A1a (beach front avenue) to st augustine.  We saw a church which had a sign outside saying "Accept jesus christ or prepare to take the heat" classic. We drove through a mix of beach towns and rugged coast line, it was wonderful.   We stopped at flagler beach and paid $1.50 each for a walk down the pier. We checked out some surfers and a lot of people fishing off the pier.

We arrived at st augustine and decided to do the trolley tour.  St Augustine is the oldest city in America or something and has the oldest everything. Oldest shop, jail, pharmacy and weirdly the oldest wax work museum. It also has a lot of interesting architecture such as the flagler hotel. after the tour we went a walk about the old town which was delightful.

We went for lunch at a place called the bunnery, k had a feta walnut salad and I had a chicken panini. I also had a delicious frozen chocolate and banana drink which was amazing. Just as we finished lunch it started raining then it started really raining and then the thunder and lightning hit. A storm had arrived.

We were ill prepared and it turns out the drainage in St Augustine is rubbish so it was like rivers in the street. We bought some glamorous ponchos and began the long walk to the car. Not pleasant.

Luckily our hotel (the jaybird) let us check in early so we were able to dry out. We've been chilling here for a while and now we're thinking about going out for dinner soon. Sadly our boat trip tonight isn't happening because of the storm but we'll manage to do some fun.
