Day 5 - Lantana to Fort Lauderdale

I was too tired to do the blog last night cos it was a late one.

We left lantana at about 830am and crossed the intercostal to the a1a and headed to Delray Beach for breakfast. The drive there was one of my favourite stretches so far, lots of fancy houses and boats and water on both sides.

We got to Delray Beach at about 9 and, even though it was early, the beach was busy and people were walking about carrying surfboards. It was the first morning that it was so warm and bright that early.

We went to Caffe Luna Rosa which was right on the front,  we even managed to score an outside table. The cafe was lovely and the service was excellent. We both had some freshly squeezed florida orange juice which was delicious. I had their special breakfast which was a pancake,  a scrambled egg and bacon and k had 2 fried eggs, bacon, grits and toast.  It was a lovely meal and the people watching was top notch.

After breakfast we went to Gumbo Limbo park in Boca Raton (most disgusting name for a town ever). We arrived just in time to see the fish and turtles being fed which was pretty great timing. It is a turtle rehabilitation centre so we went to see all the turtles and one of the volunteers told us each of their stories. Most of the turtles were on their way to recovery and being released which was nice. After that we went a walk on their boardwalk through the trees and climbed a tower which had amazing views to the ocean and inland. When we got back to the car there was an adorable lizard sitting in front of it chilling (I'll attach a picture).

After our lovely time at Gumbo Limbo we drove to Fort Lauderdale. It was really lovely, we did the riverwalk and looked at lots of boats. We decided to go to the cheesecake factory for lunch, we ordered a chicken ceasar salad to share and it came on a massive platter,  I have no idea what I'd have done if I'd ordered it for myself. We also shared a starter that was the fillings from a Cuban sandwich in a spring roll,  delicious,  I can't wait to go to little Havana in miami today now!  We couldn't finish our shared salad because it was so big but we had saved a bit of space to share some key lime cheesecake. We couldn't finish that either but it was super tasty.

We headed back to the car and drove to hotel tranquilo which is by the beach. It is amazing, we have a massive room with 2 massive beds and even 2 tvs! After we checked in and had a wee chill we down and walked along the front for a while. We also had some more self serve fro yo to cool down, did I mention it was roasting yesterday?

We came back to the hotel and then headed out to the ice hockey for some nhl action. It was the florida panthers vs the colorado avalanches,  we had amazing seats in the 8th row (there were A LOT of rows).  The game was great and fun to watch but unfortunately the Panthers lost it in the last few minutes even though it had been 2-2 for most of the game.

When we left we headed to the hard rock casino to get souvenirs for john and lorna. Unfortunately, we missed the exit and ended up miles away and had to take a crazy detour. When we got there it was a giant maze, as casinos are, we played a few slots and they were out of stock of the charms lorna collects.

When we eventually got back to the hotel it was pretty darn late and I just collapsed into bed. I didn't even have the donut I'd bought for "dinner" on the way back to the hotel.

Today is Miami day! I'm going to be singing Will Smith all day.
