We got up early as per and waved goodbye to Melbourne. We decided to have a light breakfast this morning even though the selection in the hotel looked pretty good. We went to a Publix (the best supermarket ever) and I got a Cuban pastry with cheese and guava and k got a tub of cinnamon toast crunch. The bag packer at the checkout asked if we were Irish (standard) and we said no and she asked if we knew the local priest who is Irish!? We then went to the beach just down from Melbourne where Ponce De Leon apparently first entered florida and we had an alfresco breakfast. It was pretty windy but lovely none the less. There were dozens of pelicans flying about while we were eating and watching the waves, it was pretty special. I even had a wee breakfast paddle.
One of the cool things on the drive down the coast was all the mailboxes again. There were manatees, dolphins, turtles and many more. There were also amazing views with water on both sides of the road. The treasure coast was well named.
Our next stop was Vero Beach where we went a walk about and had a wee juice stop. We went to the Barefoot Cafe and K had a chocolate milk and I had a peanut butter and banana smoothie. Refreshed we hit the road again for a pretty long stretch. It was pretty but nothing outstanding. However, we did pass the Google Street View car so our trip might be saved for eternity.
A couple of hours later it was time for lunch so we stopped at an old school diner called Time to Eat just outside Jupiter and had a delicious time. We both had matzo ball soup then I had wonderful home made pierogi and k had a blt. We were both delighted with our meal and we had a lovely waitress too.
We then went to look at the Jupiter Lighthouse but couldn't get too close cos we weren't doing a guided tour. We just took some photos and pushed on. We decided to do some serious sport to work off our lunch so we went to Lighthouse Cove mini golf. In a dramatic twist K won! I managed to lose my ball in the water which has actually happened before in America when playing mini golf. K tried to fish it out but it was gone forever.
After my trouncing we went to Jupiter Beach which was beautiful and full of very tanned people. The sea was an amazing shade of blue. We drove on and eventually stopped again at West Palm Beach, we were delighted to see a 100 montaditos which is one of our favourite Spanish chains specialising in mini sandwiches (montaditos). We weren't very hungry so just ordered 2 each for the novelty factor. West Palm Beach was lovely but kinda like a film set cos it was so pristine. We had a wee walk about but had to push on, we had places to be.
We arrived at our motel which is pretty basic but fine, we are sharing a bed tonight but it is massive, super massive. We had a bit of drama on our way out for the evening when a tiny lizard ran into the room and hid behind the fridge. It was only about 2 inches long so it managed to evade us for a while but we eventually got it out. It was very cute but not in the bedroom.
We then grabbed a snack from Taco Bell and went to the drive-in. We saw Into the Woods which I didn't really enjoy, but I did love the drive-in experience. Now we're back in the hotel and we're ready to go to sleep.
Ps we saw a furniture shop today called "Badcock and more" and we laughed like children!
Awww lizards are brilliant x
