Today started pretty early, again! A train went past at 5 and tooted and that was me up for the day. We got free continental breakfast at the hotel and this included waffle batter that you could cook up fresh, delighted. The coffee was rank though. We got some petrol this morning and it was about 30p a litre!
We hit the road and drove south for a couple of hours to get to the Kennedy Space Center, we were very excited! The Space Center lived up to our expectations thankfully (except lunch it was overpriced nonsense).
Firstly we went to the Rocket Garden where there were loads of rockets outside, they were massive and framed by lovely blue skys thankfully. Our next stop was the space shuttle atlantis building. This featured the actual space shuttle which was amazing to see. It also featured an awesome big slide, the like of which I've not been on since I was about 13, it was exhilarating and I'm very glad I went on it. We also went on the shuttle launch simulator which was fun too. We were really lucky today cos it wasn't too busy so we didn't have to queue for anything.
We looked at a few more things and had a rubbish lunch then went for the bus tour. If went out to the building where the rockets are built and the launch pads, one of my favourite things was seeing the machine that carries rockets from where they are built to the launch pads. These are very far apart.
Our next stop was a building with information and videos about the moon missions. These were very well done and educational without feeling preachy. We saw a lot of mementos from the moon missions including space suits and we even got to touch a bit of moon rock.
One of the cool things about the Space Center is that is also on a wildlife refuge because the need so much land. We saw lots of cool birds while we were driving about including a bald eagle! Awesome!
When we left the space center (laden with merch) we headed to Cocoa Beach. We visited the massive Ron Jon surf shop which is 24th and MASSIVE. We thought we'd buy something there but nothing caught our eyes weirdly.
We also went a few doors down for some self service fro yo. I had peanut butter, apple pie, watermelon and peach flavoured fro yos. You got handy dividers for your cup so they didn't get mixed up. I also had some delicious toppings including crushed butterfinger.
After that we continued to head south and got to our hotel in Melbourne just as the sun went down. The hotel is good with a memory foam mattress, comfy!
We went out for dinner to a place called Cheddars. It was absolutely rammed but we managed to get a table. We ordered spinach and cheese dip to start and a massive plate came (see photo). I had to stop eating it or I'd have been full before the mains arrived. We both ordered the steak and chicken tenders combo which came with 2 sides which was $13.79!!!! We both got a loaded baked potato and I got corn and k got slaw. Dinner was delicious, the only flaw was the corn which tasted like tinned. Gadz. The steak was amazing and I only managed to eat half of it and one of three tenders. We boxed up our leftovers and they are in the fridge in the room but god knows when we're planning to eat them.
We were very popular in the restaurant due to our exotic accents so we had loads of lovely chat which was nice. I think we've persuaded our waiter that he should visit Scotland. One of the other waiters asked us how to say hello in Scottish, he was disappointed to learn we just speak English.
After dinner we were going to pop over to Barnes & Noble but we were too full so just came back to the hotel.
Thankfully the weather was wonderful today, sunny and warm with blue skies. There was about an hour of grey skies but it was when we were on the bus tour so it didn't matter. Fingers crossed it continues that way! I can't believe we've only had 2 full days here, it feels like we've done so many brilliant things already.
Night, night.
That's awesome. Stevo is really jealous you were at the space station - thats on his bucket list. Have you had pizza yet? X
