Day 10 - Key Largo

Hi all, Kirsty here doing a guest blog as victoria is asleep.
Before I launch into the daily digest I have two things to tell you all:
1) it took me a week of driving to realise I had forgotten about cruise control! I have been using it bit since then.
2) last week we went to a pharmacy to buy some stuff. There was a girl about 10 years old in front of me in the queue with her mum. The girl was looking at a big neon 24 hours sign on the window, but as it was back to front she was trying to figure out what number it said. As she wondered out loud, she said the following: "24....42.....24.....42....42. That's the best number. No, actually 100 is the best number. Actually I like 57"!
Ok, on with the blog.
We had a relaxed day as there was no travelling, just in key largo all day. Our first stop was a late breakfast in doc's diner. I had bacon, eggs and grits, and V had a bacon croissant with hash browns. After that we just chilled until 12.30, which was when we had to check in for our next activity of the day - a trip in a glass bottom boat! The trip lasted for 2 hours as the boat took us out to a coral reef. It was amazing!  We saw some barracudas and lots of smaller fish but unfortunately we just couldn't capture it in photos. At one point we passed some divers which was pretty exciting!  We did get a photo of that, so I'll get v to post it in the blog. Also, more excitingly, V saw a turtle! We passed it too quickly for me to see though. Another fun thing happened on the boat - a woman started chatting to us to find out where we were from, and it turned out she was a speech therapist! (speech pathologist in American). When she found out I was too she gave me a fist bump! So unfortunately V can't even escape the speech therapy chat in America. The woman had spent part of her honeymoon in Scotland so we talked about that too.
Once we got off the boat we headed to dunkin donuts for a wee snack. We then played some mini golf. I surprised myself by winning again, and I even got a hole in one, which some other players were impressed with!  Luckily there were no water features on this course, so there were no lost ball dramas.
We then visited a key lime chocolate shop to sample their goods. V had some key lime sorbet and I had a weird creation which was basically a hard pretzel (about 7cm long, ie not a big soft pretzel) covered in caramel, peanuts, chocolate and mini chips style crisps. It was delicious!
After another chill at the hotel we went to a bar at the nearby marina, which has sections of glass bottom floor! We saw some fish swimming about, and the local pelicans fighting over some food. V had a mango daiquiri and I had a virgin colada as I was driving. For dinner we went to a place called Mrs mac's and both had steak and salad. V had a baked potato with hers and I got fried veggies with mine.
We were pretty tired after dinner so came back to the hotel where v promptly fell asleep. I'll get her to put the photos up in the morning!

  1. Yey to guest posts. Stevo and I went on a glass bottom boat once but it was too murky to see anything, also steven got sea sick from it and vomited in the street. Sounds like you're boat trip was loads better. Haha imagine meeting a speech therapist. Sounds like they love the Scots. Is it pretty rare to get Scots there? Have you heard any other brits? X

  3. Yeah we've heard some brits but not many. I think quite a lot of Scottish people live in South Florida (like Sharon's dad)but they love us anyway.
